Microsoft 365 High Volume Email Public Preview

New addition to the organization Microsoft 365 High Volume Email (High Volume Email) (HVE) service's public preview has begun!

Designed specifically for business applications and those sending high volumes of email with SMTP Auth, this service allows you to bypass Exchange Online's current sending limits.

If you are one of those who send large volumes of internal messages via on-premises servers, you can now use this new service to sideline your On-Premises servers.

  • HVE, which started to be available to users worldwide as of April 1, will be fully distributed by the end of April. In the first stage, Microsoft 365 High Volume Email's endpoint is in North America. However, it aims to expand to more regions in the coming months and become a global service.
  • With HVE, the aim is to provide users with the ability to send higher volumes of email compared to a typical user mailbox. This will provide great convenience especially in internal communication.Sending to external recipients will be limited because Azure Communication Services is actively used for this need.

Administrators will be able to set their own limits per account. Thus, everyone will be able to create a sending volume and a cost plan based on their own needs. High Volume Email is designed to offer great flexibility to administrators with a consumption-based billing model, usage metrics and tracking.

In preview, HVE (High Volume Email) for Microsoft 365 Requires SMTP Basic Authentication. OAuth authentication is expected to be supported when generally available.

A few additional notes on authentication:

  • If Security Defaults is enabled, all basic authentication including SMTP will be disabled, rendering the HVE inoperable.
  • HVE accounts in TransportConfig SMTPClientAuthenticationDisabled Even if set to true, it may still work because a private endpoint is used.
  • To avoid any impact from authentication policies, if these policies are used, it is important for customers to ensure that AllowBasicAuthSmtp is enabled in the policy applied to the HVE account. Custom authentication policies can be applied to HVE accounts as needed.
